Abstract

This is the archaeological analysis of Valluerca’s church (Valdegovía, Alava), whose pre-Romanesque phase is featured by an espadaña. This local typology of bell tower is one of the few Hispanic early medieval examples recorded, being dated to 9th and 10th centuries. According to the results of this work and the recent catalogue of early medieval churches in Alava, Valluerca’s church has to be redated.
